At Moosehaven, we know stress can creep in at any age – but at Moosehaven, we believe peace of mind is always within reach. Whether it’s finding a quiet moment in the chapel, taking a walk by the water on River Road, or joining a group relaxation class, our residents have many opportunities to breathe deeply and reconnect with what truly matters.
Here are a few simple, soothing practices we embrace on campus to help reduce stress and support emotional well-being:
1. Gentle Breathing Exercises
Sometimes, all it takes is a few deep breaths. Residents are encouraged to practice deep, intentional breathing during morning routines or whenever they need a moment of calm. Try this simple technique:
Breathe in slowly for a count of four
Hold for a count of four
Exhale slowly for a count of six
This pattern helps lower the heart rate and quiet the mind – perfect before meals, activities, or bedtime.
2. Chair Meditation & Guided Relaxation
Moosehaven offers chair-based relaxation classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9am and 10am, that combine light stretching with mindfulness and meditation. Residents learn how to calm their thoughts and release tension – all while remaining comfortable and supported. Even just 10 minutes a day can make a meaningful difference in mood and focus.
3. Gratitude Journaling
One of the most powerful practices for emotional wellness is gratitude. We encourage residents to jot down one or two things they’re thankful for each day. Whether it’s a sunny morning, a kind neighbor, or a warm cup of coffee, these small reflections build a more positive mindset over time.
4. Quiet Spaces, Calm Moments
The beautiful Moosehaven campus itself provides a natural backdrop for mindfulness. From our peaceful gardens and walking path along the river, to the serene chapel and cozy library, there are endless spots to pause, reflect, and enjoy the present moment. 5. Group Connection & Spiritual Support
Stress often lessens when we share our thoughts with others. Group devotionals, peer support, and community events offer encouragement and a sense of togetherness – reminding residents they’re never alone on their journey.
It’s the Little Things
At Moosehaven, wellness isn’t just about physical health – it’s about nurturing the mind and spirit, too. Through small, mindful moments, our residents discover new ways to stay grounded, grateful, and at ease.
