According to Executive Director John Capes, "it was hard to tell whether the residents, staff or children had more fun" at the Moosehaven retirement community's First Annual Community Trick or Treat, Wednesday evening, Oct. 31.
Local children from as far away as central Jacksonville and Fleming Island came with their parents to the 70-acre campus, and followed a lighted pathway about the grounds to collect scrumptious treats from residents and staff (many in Halloween costume themselves!) from nine residences and along the Main Street area in the LifeCare Center.
During the 90-minute early-evening event, the young visitors and their parents along the walking route enjoyed an inflatable haunted house and a life-size animated pirate!
Residents and staff distributed more than 10,000 pieces of candy -- and the next day, Nov. 1, Moosehaven staff were receiving calls from grateful parents thanking Moosehaven for providing their children a "safe and old-fashioned Halloween."
Executive Director Capes said that plans are already in the works to welcome back the community's children to the First Annual Moosehaven Easter Egg Hunt! |
